Russell Simmons posted a Harriet Tubman sextape video on his new YouTube Channel and said it was the “funniest thing I’ve even seen.”
From just the screen shot — the negative portrayal of Harriet Tubman having sex with a white slave master… how can you not be appalled — And that’s not even hitting play on the video.
4 Reasons Why There was Nothing “Funny” about the “Harriet Tubman Sex Tape”
1. Its not funny that Russel Simmons finds “humor” in cheapening the image of a honored and distinguished historical figure like Harriet Tubman to a generation of young people that aren’t aware of her accomplishments or how she changed the course of life as we know it.
2. There is nothing humorous about rape. African-Americans both male and female, were subjected to forced sex by white slave masters which to this day has caused massive damage in the black community.
3. Would Russel Simmons have thought it was the “funniest thing he ever saw” to watch a skit of a person he was close to a skit like Angela Simmons, his daughters, or his mother having coerced/unwanted sex?
4. Russel Simmons, age 55, born in 1957… 2 years after the murder of Emmit Teal, age 11 when MLK was assassinated, and a teen during civil rights movement… a man who was also influential in the debate about the harsh discrimination of the Rockefeller Drug Laws can’t empathize with the inappropriateness of devaluing the brutal and inhuman struggles of a generation before him.
